Note ν drops before sigma (in dat pl). The nom sg is formed from the mere stem with a formative lenthening. In the dat pl, when both ντ drops, there is a compensatory lenthening.
 

Liquid -ρ stems

The nom sg is formed from the mere stem (as in σωτήρ or χείρ), or adding sigma to the stem (as in μάρτυς). In the latter case, ρ drops before sigma (in nom sg and dat pl). In the former case, ρ does not drop before sigma (in dat pl), although the stem vowel might ablaut.
 
 

Third Declension - Syncopated (-ερ) stems

Note the stem vowel ε (of -ερ) fluctuates between ε, η and nothing.
(Details: The nom sg is formed from the stem with formative lenthening. Stem vowel ε is suppressed throughout the rest for ἀνήρ and in the datives for πατήρ. For ἀνήρ, when ε is suppressed, δ is inserted for euphony. In the dat pl, when ε is lost, α is added to aid pronunciation. μήτηρ and θυγάτηρ decline like πατήρ.)
 
 

Third Declension - Neuter -ματ and -εσ stems

For -ματ nouns, note how τ drops in the nom/acc sg and dat pl (Noun rules 7 and 8).
For -εσ nouns, the nom sg (and hence acc sg) is formed from the stem with the vowel ε strengthened to ο. In all other cases, the stem σ drops and contraction of the concurrent vowels takes place.
 
 

Third Declension - “Vowel” stems

For -ις nouns, the consonantal ι is replaced by ι and ε (-ι in nom sg and acc sg, and -ε in other cases). The acc pl has been assimilated to the nom pl.
For -ευς and -ους nouns, the final υ (digamma ϝ) drops before a vowel (i.e., retained in nom sg and dat pl).
